Orphan Care

Caring for Orphans With the Love of Jesus

Orphan Care & Family Restoration

At Hands of Mercy, orphan care isn’t charity—it’s family. Today we care for 36 children directly at our Tanzania children’s center, and we also support four additional children’s centers across Tanzania and Uganda, ensuring hundreds of vulnerable young lives are fed, educated, and discipled. Our commitment is simple: no child should be hungry, uneducated, or spiritually alone. Through food programs, education sponsorships, discipleship, and sustainable agriculture, we make sure these children grow up safe, supported, and rooted in the love of Jesus Christ.

Our heart in East Africa beats through two trusted leaders: Mujuni in Tanzania and Benjamin in Uganda. Both oversee children’s homes, education, and the surrounding church communities. Together, they carry out the daily, hands-on love that makes this ministry possible.

Tanzania: A Father to the Fatherless

In Tanzania, the children’s center is overseen by Mujuni, who has walked with many of these children since they were very young. He knows their stories, their struggles, and their dreams. To these children, he is not just a caretaker—he is a father.

What Mujuni provides:

  • Daily meals and basic necessities

  • Safe housing and protection

  • Schooling and education oversight

  • Personal discipleship and spiritual care

  • Leadership in prayer, worship, and Bible teaching

  • Supervision of agricultural sustainability projects

  • Community support, including supplying seeds, food, and Bibles to other churches

The center is full of love and thankfulness. With the help of his brother Lugar and his wife, who handle cooking, cleaning, and agricultural work, the children live in a warm, family-oriented home environment. Teachers and local community members also step in to mentor and support the kids.

One of the most powerful parts of this story is that Mujuni once went to a kind of debtor’s prison for taking out loans just to buy rice for the children. That was the moment we met him—and we stepped in to make sure he and the children would never face starvation or prison again. Every day outside those prison walls is a day he and the children thank God.

Uganda: Growing Orphans into Leaders

In Uganda, Benjamin oversees orphan care, schooling, and discipleship. His work extends beyond the children’s homes—he supports local churches, helps vulnerable families, and ensures that orphans receive the education and emotional support they need.

Benjamin also leads agricultural and sustainability projects, helping the homes grow food, raise animals, and build stability. His work ensures that the centers are not only protected today, but also equipped for long-term success.

Education & Long-Term Growth

Our children are given more than food and shelter—they are given a future.

  • Tuition and school supplies

  • Tutoring and mentorship

  • University sponsorship for qualified students

  • Skills training in farming, business, and practical life

Several of our children have already reached college, breaking generational poverty and opening doors for future families and communities.

Sustainability That Builds Dignity

We believe in building homes that can eventually stand on their own. That’s why we invest in:

  • Gardens and crop production

  • Animal projects

  • Land development

  • Skills programs for older youth

These projects teach responsibility, build confidence, and give the children a sense of ownership and pride in their home.

Spiritual Care: Healing the Heart First

Every child receives pastoral care, discipleship, and prayer. Our focus is to:

  • Teach the love, power, and authority of Jesus

  • Help each child develop a personal relationship with God

  • Train them to pray, overcome darkness, and stand strong in faith

  • Encourage them to bring the Gospel to their own communities

For many, this is the first time they’ve ever felt safe, loved, or hopeful. The transformation is visible and lasting.

Supporting Local Churches & Pastors

We also serve alongside pastors in Tanzania, Uganda, and Burundi—men and women who are true heroes. We help with:

  • Food support

  • Crusades and open-air Gospel meetings

  • Bible seminars

  • Prayer gatherings

  • Training in deliverance, healing, and discipleship

These pastors care for the poor, feed widows, shepherd their communities, and do it all with almost no resources. We help them because the Gospel demands it—and because they carry the heart of Jesus

This Is More Than Orphan Care—It’s Kingdom Work

Hands of Mercy exists because children deserve family, pastors deserve support, and communities deserve hope. Everything we do—from food programs to crusades to agricultural development—is part of demonstrating the love, power, and mercy of Jesus in practical, life-changing ways.

And we truly need more help.
Every gift changes lives.
Every meal matters.
Every prayer moves mountains.
